1. Find out the type of paint used presently in your swimming pool, they are most likely to be epoxy paint or paints with chlorinated rubber (both of which have a considerably long life time of 5 to 7 years). Confirm it by getting a sample of your pool paint tested by a dealer and it is highly recommended to continue using the same type of swimming pool paint already used.
2. Clean the swimming pool and figure out the number of paint coating already applied on the pool walls previously (this can be easily done by counting the layers of the peeling off paint in the parts where they are shredding). Presence of a thick old layer of paint causes possible difficulty in adhesion so it’s better to have it sandblasted, painting over 1 or 2 layers is admissible provided a thorough cleansing of the walls is done using trisodium phosphate
3. This is followed by rinsing with water and application of muriatic acid (be precautious while handling the acid as it’s harmful to the lungs, skin, and eyes). Allow it to soak
4. To remove any acid residue rinse with water again and apply another coat of TSP (tri-sodium phosphate).
5. Follow it with around round of through rinsing and allow complete drying of the pool
6. Check for any minor repairs or cracks and get them mended before starting the swimming pool painting work.
7. On the surface paints with chlorinated rubber are applies directly, they have self primer properties. Whereas the epoxy paints require a primer coal particularly on sandblasted concretes.
8. Now quickly and evenly spread out the paint over large areas using the paint rollers, for the more difficult to access locations like the corners, drains and the outlet valves or inlet valves paint brushes maybe used.
9. Manufactures instructions are to be followed for the curing and drying, proper temperature conditions are important for curing and drying of epoxy paints in cold temperatures may affect the quality of adhesion and cause discoloration.
So by following these simple steps a swimming pool paint work can be easily accomplished.
